Letters to the Editor

Don't forget real enemy

This is in reply to Mr. Fry’s letter March 23 (“Immigrants free to love or leave the U.S.”).

You wrote that you think all immigrants must adapt to and comply with the laws of this land. I wonder if the Native Americans felt the same way.

You wrote that the multi-culturalism going on in this country has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. I say, multi-cultural community is our national identity.

You wrote that Americans already have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. I say, America was built on the respect and acceptance of all people regardless of race, religion, culture, lifestyle, gender or ethnicity. WAR (We are Right) is the reason many people desperately flee to the United States. One way is definitely not the only way, Mr. Fry.

You wrote that immigrants complain, whine and gripe about our flag, our pledge, our national motto and our way of life. I say that every immigrant I’ve ever known respects, honors and appreciates what the American flag represents. Most immigrants work to no end or even risk their lives for what America offers. Many even reject or forget their roots. I have nothing less than respect for those who leave all they know — all their history, so that their children can experience freedom. That takes courage.

You wrote that Americans speak English, therefore if an immigrant wishes to be part of our society, learn the language. I say, yes, some immigrants may still speak their primary language, but the laws of our land gives everyone freedom of speech. If you went to Kenya would you speak English or one of the many tribal languages? How long would it take you to learn the language?

You wrote that Christian men and women founded this nation with “In God We Trust” as their motto. I say Christian men and women killed 6 million Native Americans and stole the land, destroying God’s reputation in the process. I wonder if the Native Americans consider their demise a Holocaust. I wish I could find one to ask. Regardless if a person calls himself a Christian or not, God is love and the source to all.

You wrote that you are happy with your culture and have no desire to CHANGE (Circumstances Have Altered, New Great Experiences), you don’t really care how others have done things where they came from. I say, yes, have PRIDE (People Rejoicing In Dangerous Ego) in your culture. But, understand the significance of the culture you are born into.

You wrote that you highly encourage complainers the use of one other great American Freedom: the right to leave. I say, perhaps leaving would be best for you. Since you favor compliance, why not try a communist country? Perhaps, Russia or China would best suit your needs.

Don’t forget who the real enemy is, Mr. Fry. The real enemy is FEAR (False Evidence Appearing Real), intolerance, ANGER (All No Good Energy Released), resentment and HATE (Hellish Attitude That’s Evil). No, we cannot see these negative attitudes, but we can feel them, and I have felt some of that in your letter.

You might say that I’m only 29, what do I know. You are right. What do I know? But you are the past and I represent a voice that gives hope to a more evolved future.
