'Relay for Life' needs you

I would like to share some of my thoughts about the American Cancer Society Relay for Life that will take place again in Federal Way.

This year will be Federal Way’s third annual event. This 18-hour event will be held from 6 p.m. June 1 to noon June 2 at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.

This event is about being a community that takes up the fight against cancer. Being a cancer survivor myself, this event holds special meaning to me. It starts off with a survivors lap while friends, family, co-workers cheer us on. If that is not enough, at 10 p.m. the stadium lights go off until dawn and luminaries line the track (the luminaries are decorated by family and loved ones and are in memory of or in honor of their loved one). On one side of the stadium bleachers the word “hope” is spelled out and on the other stadium bleachers the word “cure.”

What is truly amazing is the number of survivors who are at Relay for Life. This year in addition to the luminaries, the committee is putting together a pictorial tribute. In order to pull this heart-touching part of the ceremony off, we need your pictures.

If you feel that you need or want to be a part of this event, please email me at: lulich@attbi.com
