Cruelty vs. owner reponsibility

Thanks for the good editorial on the animal cruelty versus WASL coverage (March 25, Mirror editor Pat Jenkins’ column). It is amazing what a special-interest group can do to sway public opinion. I’m not sure if there was that much public outcry for child abuse cases or the two men accused of stabbing a man after they hit his car.

Cruelty to animals isn’t acceptable, but the owners’ personal responsibility of securing and protecting their animal in their own yard is passed off as “the family didn’t know what happened”? If their yard had been secure, would this have happened?
