Send someone to the rescue

I have difficulty understanding why any organization such as the Department of Social and Health Services would conduct themselves in a manner rendering themselves vulnerable to an article such as Angie Vogt's ("DSHS and the People of the Lie," Aug. 11).

Everybody loses. Most of all, the children who need protection as well as DSHS's reputation. What's going on? Note to Gov. Christine Gregoire: Send someone to the rescue; the children and DSHS.

Watch out for those tracks

I would like to thank the four cars that stopped on Saturday morning, Aug. 11, to lend assistance.

I was riding my bike along Marine View Drive, just north of Taylor Way by the lumber mill, and crashed while trying to cross the railroad tracks. Each of them wanted to make sure I was OK and one even offered to give me a ride to where I needed to go. Thank you for making sure I was OK.

I just had a few scrapes and bruises, but it was very comforting to know that had it been much worse, people were willing to stop and offer assistance. I feel much better about riding my bike in Federal Way and Northeast Tacoma given the wonderful residents of the area. But you do need to improve those tracks.

Brian Herbert, Federal Way
