Kochmar is the right choice for District 30 | Letters
July 6, 2012 · Updated 12:35 PM
Linda Kochmar has proven herself to be a hard worker who has, through her work on the Federal Way City Council, supported many strategies in the interest of the business community.
What has happened on her watch and with her support?
1. Working with realtors and developers, city fees were changed to “time of sale,” among other things, during 2007/08 to facilitate economic development during stressful economic times.
2. Linda’s stance on the budget during her tenure on the council has been to not raise taxes and to face the challenge of balancing the budget with funds available.
3. When two businesses were poised to close down under financial hardship, Linda supported reducing the gambling tax so the businesses could keep people in Federal Way employed.
4. During her term as mayor, under the old city manager form of government, Linda started the practice of responding herself as mayor, or having city staff respond during council meetings, to citizens who brought questions or issues before the council. This was a big departure from previous council practice where residents commented but never knew what came of their comments. Mayor Skip Priest has continued this practice under his tenure.
Linda Kochmar is the most qualified candidate and will be an excellent representative for the business community and for citizens of the 30th District as one of our state representatives.
Linda Purlee, Federal Way
