Candidate support for Honda and BeSerra | Letters, Aug. 6
City councilman endorses Honda
I am endorsing Susan Honda for Federal Way City Council position 3. Susan has served this community for well over 30 years. Her experience prepares her to be an effective member of our city council.
She has been involved with her children’s Boys and Girls Scouts, served as a board member with the Boys and Girls Club, served as the PTSA President for 10 years and has chaired the Federal Way Arts Commission and Diversity Commission. Susan’s knowledge and experience will be as asset to the city council. Susan will work hard to listen and join me to advocate for the citizens of Federal Way.
Please visit her website at www.HondaforFW.com to learn more about her. Susan has been endorsed by the Tacoma News Tribune, Federal Way Mirror and has been rated “Very Good” by the non-partisan Municipal League of King County. In conversing with Susan, it is apparent that she has love and compassion for our community. Susan Honda is an excellent choice for the Federal Way City Council position 3.

BeSerra for school board
I am writing to ask people to vote for Carrie BeSerra for position 3 on the Federal Way School Board. She has addressed what I perceive as the most current need in the Federal Way school system.
Our 30 percent dropout rate is unacceptable, and we have to find ways to decrease that number. Her solution is to increase the communication between parents and the individual teachers by use of emails and letters to be sent home to parents whose children are at risk of failing. It is too late to tell a parent once the child has failed to prevent that child from feeling disappointment.
By telling the parent the weekly schedule, it is also a way for the teachers to increase parent participation in the education of their child. This personal touch is usually enough to allow teachers and parents to effectively save a child from feeling like dropping out is the only solution.
By her training and attendance at past school board meetings, I would highly recommend Carrie BeSerra for position 3.
