I read the letter to the editor titled "The harsh realities of dressing like a slut" (July 23).

Let's look at the definition in the Oxford English Dictionary: a woman who has many sexual partners; a woman who is untidy or lazy.

I know a lot of men who fit that description. That word must have been thought up by some righteous hypocritical, judgmental individual who has trouble maintaining intimate relationships.

The idea that women's dress invites rape is ridiculous. What is the reason when an 80-year-old woman gets raped in her home, or the boy playing outside, or the little girl sleeping in her bed

Let me tell you, the so-called "slut" can come from an affluent neighborhood also. How one dresses has very little to do with rape. The only cause for rape is mental illness and a sick S.O.B.

P.S.: A slut can also be a man.
