(RE: “Let’s build a convention center in Federal Way,” letters, June 1):

Economic engine is the word! A convention center with adjustable rooms and multiple functions will not only bring very needed money into the area, but also help existing service business around the center.

The hotel industry can provide services, and the increased tax revenue for the city could help encourage more growth. Restaurants, shopping and other employment will grow from this type of city planning. This will provide a true anchor for the downtown and provide living wage jobs here — and not force residents onto the commuter treadmill. Construction will add even more economic growth and jobs to our town, if we require local hires when possible.

This facility could provide town hall type facilities and a place for positive name recognition for Federal Way.
