Fatal flaws in I-5 ramp proposals

I am responding to Scott Chase’s letter in the April 6 edition, in which he prefers an I-5 on/off-ramp at South 312th Street over one at South 324th Street.

I served on the city task forces from 2003-2009 that worked on the City Center Access Project. Both South 312th and South 324th streets were the final alternatives chosen at the end of that seven-year effort.

Mr. Chase is right that the 324th option is not viable, since it goes nowhere. The 312th option would destroy Steel Lake Park and does not allow for reasonable road construction along 28th Avenue South.

There were many fatal flaws for both 312th and 324th choices in the task force’s evaluation. That’s why the project was dropped in 2009. It should be terminated now for the same reasons.
