Cheers & Jeers: Graduates and Candidates

Cheers to the class of 2017 graduates. You represent new hope and opportunity in our community. Best wishes in your new endeavors.

Jeers to the endless road projects in Federal Way. For the time being, they are only contributing to snarled, congested rush-hour commutes for residents.

Cheers to the Federal Way Symphony for organizing the first Blues and Brews Festival, slated for Sept. 16 at Town Square Park. The festival is sure to satisfy the music and craft beer lover inside us all. Federal Way needs more of these types of events.

Jeers to local candidates who can’t keep their campaign signs out of the public right of way and are in violation of city code.

Cheers to the individuals involved in the Miles for Meso and other community fundraising events. These events are truly successful because of the volunteers who give up countless hours to make them happen.

Jeers to the city’s habit of being reactive to planning and zoning issues, managing by crisis, rather than being proactive.

Cheers to the Todd Beamer High School boys soccer team for bringing home the school’s first state title and also for being further proof that Federal Way is a hotbed for outstanding soccer programs.

Cheers for summer lunch meals provided to Federal Way students. The summer meal programs, offered through the school district and the Multi-Service Center, are valuable because they guarantee some children can have at least one meal a day when school is out for summer.

Cheers to the sidewalk and street light improvements made on First Avenue. These improvements beautify that neighborhood and make the area safer.

Cheers to the Federal Way Police Department for working together with other area law enforcement agencies to improve communication and combat gang problems in the area through the Valley Enforcement of Gangs and Narcotics Task Force.

Cheers to FUSION for expanding and moving its boutique into a new location as part of its ongoing mission to serve low-income families.

Cheers to District 30 House of Representatives members for establishing a district office in which to meet all constituents.

Cheers to District 30 Republicans who put political losses behind them and are trying to build consensus around issues rather than ideologies.

Jeers to southbound traffic during morning and evening rush hour from Federal Way.
