Beer, blues and ballots | Q&A with Mr. Federal Way

Q: Mr. Federal Way, how is the music and craft brewing scene around here?

A: Mr. Federal Way is glad you asked because if there’s anything the city needs, it’s more music and craft brewing. These two things are cornerstones of Pacific Northwest culture.

Mr. Federal Way already got tickets to the Federal Way Blues Festival that will run all day Sept. 16 at Town Square Park with lots of live blues, craft beer, wine, cider and food trucks.

It’s a 21-and-over event, which means Mrs. Federal Way will be booking a babysitter to watch Lil’ Federal Way and Mr. Federal Way Jr. There will be a whole lot of people just like us at the festival, but the best part is that it’s right here.

Kudos to the Federal Way Symphony for thinking outside the box and filling a void with this festival.

Q: Mr. Federal Way, did you mail your ballot for the Aug. 1 primary election?

A: Mr. Federal Way has voted in every election, including this one. This particular election season should be exciting, with strong candidates across the board, especially in the races for Federal Way mayor and city council position 4.

Mr. Federal Way respects the local residents who have the courage and make the commitment to serve in public office. Even in a community as nice as Federal Way, these candidates are willing to do a thankless job and endure harsh criticism in exchange for a tiny stipend that’s worth peanuts once you add up all the time they put into the job.

That’s why Mr. Federal Way has no desire to run for public office. Mr. Federal Way can still participate by reading about the issues in the local newspaper, then making an informed decision at the ballot box.

If things don’t work out after the candidate takes office, then Mr. Federal Way takes that into consideration during the next election.

But instead of echoing the phrase, “You work for us,” Mr. Federal Way wants voters to view local elected officials as “working with us.”

Mr. Federal Way does have one request: Please do everything in your power to prevent national politics from polluting local politics this year and every year after that. Federal Way is better than that.

Q: Who did you vote for?

A: None of your business.
