Disclaimer: Mr. Federal Way is taking a much-needed vacation this week to recharge the old batteries. Mr. Federal Way is on a “man’s weekend” touring the Northern California wine country.

Readers of The Mirror will be treated to the next best thing — Mrs. Federal Way, who is taking over Mr. Federal Way’s award-winning and super popular column for a week.

Q: What is your perfect “date night?”

A: Funny you should ask, because any night with Mr. Federal Way is the perfect date night. Just kidding, obviously. As many of you know, after you have kids, any time away from them with your significant other constitutes the perfect “date night.” Mrs. and Mr. Federal Way could leave the kids at home and head to the doctor’s office together to get yearly physicals and that could be considered a perfect “date night.”

But, you asked about Mrs. Federal Way’s perfect date, so Mrs. Federal Way will describe it for you.

The perfect “date night” would include dropping the kids off at a babysitter and heading out to a steakhouse for a huge, medium-rare filet mignon with a big scoop of garlic mashed potatoes.

Mrs. Federal Way would wash down all that food with a couple of light beers and end the dinner with a piece of chocolate mousse cake. That’s perfection.

Because we were having an early dinner, “date night” would then move its way to Safeco Field to watch the Seattle Mariners get beat. There’s nothing better than watching a professional baseball game on a crisp summer night on beautiful green grass, especially with Mr. Federal Way sitting by Mrs. Federal Way’s side, and the kids sitting at home with the babysitter.

The perfect “date night” would end with Mrs. and Mr. Federal Way walking in the door to having the babysitter tell us that the kids are asleep.

Q: Did you get a little misty-eyed when you had to send your kids back to school earlier this week?

A: To answer your question simply — no. Mrs. Federal Way compares the kids’ summer break from school to a baseball season. Labor Day is essentially the seventh game of the World Series. When the first Monday in September rolls around every year, it means Mrs. Federal Way is no longer responsible for the all-day, everyday entertainment of the kids.

That’s not saying that Mrs. Federal Way doesn’t cherish every moment spent with the little ones. It’s just nice to get them out of Mrs. Federal Way’s hair for six hours of the day.

Q: What is your favorite show on TV?

A: Right now, Mrs. Federal Way has started getting into “Breaking Bad.” Mrs. Federal Way knows that the show has been around for the past five years and Mrs. Federal Way should have been watching it from the get-go.

But, that’s what Netflix is for, right? Nowadays, technology allows us to watch our favorite TV shows anytime that we want to. It’s great.

So, just last week, Mrs. Federal Way watched the first episode of the first season of “Breaking Bad” and now Mrs. Federal Way can’t turn off the TV. There’s just something about the show that makes you want to tune in.

The tale of Mr. Walter White, a chemistry teacher with cancer, cooking up drugs as a way to pay for his family’s future, along with one of his ex-students, Jesse Pinkman, is more addictive than the meth they are dealing.

The New Yorker called it a “strange kind of must-watch: a show you dread and crave at once.” The show, which is on AMC, is currently in its fifth and final season. The final episode of “Breaking Bad” is slated to air on Sept. 29.

Q: It was Labor Day on Monday, so does that mean you won’t be wearing white anymore?

A: Mrs. Federal Way has never really been into the whole ins and outs of fashion. If Mrs. Federal Way grabs something out of the closet that happens to be the color white, Mrs. Federal Way will have no problem putting it on, even after Labor Day.

It’s Mrs. Federal Way’s opinion that being comfortable during the work day is a lot more important than listening to advice from talking heads on the Bravo! Network. Mrs. Federal Way has some very, very good-looking white outfits that Mr. Federal Way paid a lot of money for, and Mrs. Federal Way isn’t going to let Labor Day affect what Mrs. Federal Way puts on in the morning.
