Goodbye, Federal Way
By Stuart Chernis, Mirror publisher
Saying goodbye is never easy.
I have been honored to have served as the Federal Way Mirrors publisher since April 2007. In that short time, I feel as if Ive come to know you, the readers, as individuals and community members.
Next month, the Federal Way Mirror celebrates its 10-year anniversary, and I am sad that I wont be officiating at the festivities. Duty calls me to Marysville-Arlington, where I will be a group publisher for those publications as well as two business journals in Wenatchee and Bellingham.
In our 10-year history, The Mirror has grown alongside Federal Way. As the seventh-largest city in Washington, Federal Way can be proud to call as its own a professional symphony, a world-class aquatic facility, many successful arts groups including Centerstage, and a host of other festivals.
We can be proud of Federal Ways Festival Days and my favorite event of the festival, the parade. I stood on a corner with my family and met politicians, community leaders, gymnasts and musicians all people who make a difference in this community.
When I arrived in Federal Way, I had never been a publisher, but was eager to put my stamp on the paper. I wanted the paper to be 100 percent community related. My favorite stories focused on real people, such as the Federal Way couple who routinely pick up litter on their way to grocery shopping. Folks like these reflect the sense of community pride.
Over the last few months, the Federal Way Mirror has received numerous compliments about our content, community involvement and even improved delivery service. Be assured this will all continue, and The Mirror will continue to grow and reflect the community.
At the end of February, we will have a new Web site, and we have already started producing online videos. I am leaving a quality staff here, whose focus will be to produce the best community newspaper and serve Federal Way.
If you call The Mirror office, the first thing you will hear is Thank you for reading the Federal Way Mirror. I want to echo that statement and thank you also for bringing me into your community. (Exactly)
