Monte Lyle Askegard was born July 4, 1966 in Tacoma, WA to Delmont and June Askegard. Monte grew up with his older sister Lynne Castor and younger brother Jeremy Askegard. Monte graduated with the class of 1984 from Federal Way High School.

After graduating, Monte worked in the local construction industry for several years. Monte soon developed a passion for flying and decided to become a pilot. Monte quickly earned his private pilot’s license and started on a new career in aviation. While still working in construction Monte moonlighted as a pilot instructor and then started flying for a skydiving company in Arlington, WA.

After deciding to make flying a full time career, Monte piloted sightseeing airplanes over the Grand Canyon. While residing in Arizona, Monte married and became a father to his beautiful, only child Samantha June Askegard.

During his pilots career Monte lived in Arizona, Virginia and ultimately made St. Louis, MO his home. Monte and his daughter Samantha resided in St. Louis for 10 years while flying as a captain for Trans State Airlines.

After fighting a long battle with cancer, Monte passed away on August 16, 2018.

A memorial service in memory of Monte will be held at at 12:30 PM, Saturday September 29, 2018 at Tapps Island Golf Club, 20818 Island Pkwy. E, Lake Tapps, WA 98391.
