Jean Licari

Dec. 27, 1966-Jan. 8, 2012

On Jan. 8, after a courageous battle with cancer, Jean passed away at the young age of 45 with her family by her side. Jean was born Dec. 27, 1966 in Clarkston, WA. In 1971, the family moved to Potlatch, ID, where she attended school and graduated with honors in 1985.

After high school she attended the University of Idaho, where she was a member of the track and cross country team, and graduated with her teaching degree in 1990. At this time she moved to the Seattle area and then spent her entire 21-year teaching career at Federal Way High School as a math teacher. She also was the beloved head track and cross country coach and head of the math department. It was in her early years of teaching she met and married her soulmate, Pat Licari. Jean and Pat had two girls, Katelin and Madison, that were her pride and joy. She led a busy life, teaching, coaching track and mentoring. Her impact will be felt far and wide for years to come as Jean touched many lives. Jean is survived by her husband, Pat, and her two daughters, Katelin and Madison; her mother, Marge Thompson; sisters Carol Curtis (Bob), Donna Humble; brothers John Hayden, Jeff Scoggins (Kim), Steve Hayden, Gary Hayden (Karen), as well as her brother-in-law Dan and in-laws Margot and Jerry Licari and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brother Dave Scoggin, and recently her father, Billy Thompson. Jean loved spending time with her family. She was devoted to her students and athletes. All who knew Jean will miss her dearly!

Services will be held 2 p.m. Jan. 21 at Federal Way High School. In lieu of flowers, the Federal Way High School Foundation has established a fund to help support the Licari family.

Donations can be made through the Foundation’s web site, fwhsfoundation.org. There is a link to designate funds to the Licari family.
