YES Network to host job fair for students

Event set for April 11 at Todd Beamer High School

The Youth Employment Support (YES) Network will host a job fair from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Todd Beamer High School, 35999 16th Ave S. The job fair is open to any Federal Way Public Schools student age 16 and older looking for employment.

The YES Network, which was was formed to create more opportunities for youth in Federal Way to obtain and maintain employment, is seeking employers looking to hire teens this summer.

After five months of planning, 29 students began a five-week job training program at Todd Beamer High School on Jan. 10. Classes take place on early release days and give students access to local employers and community members who have overcome adversity. In addition to resume writing and interviewing skills, YES Network participants receive training on 21st century job skills necessary to thrive when first entering the job market.

“As our young people have the opportunity to join the workplace in their teens, they gain essential experience and skills that inform their future career choices and contribute to the overall knowledge and skills needed to be career-ready,” FWPS Superintendent Dr. Tammy Campbell said in a media release.

Community leaders in Federal Way have joined this effort because they see the need for more youth to gain early job skills, according to the release.

“By conducting a job training program and job fair for youth, the YES Network is giving our youth an opportunity to achieve the American dream,” Federal Way Mayor Jim Ferrell said. “The city of Federal Way is proud to be a co-sponsor in this important program.”

The Youth Employment Support Network is committed to expanding a viable, dependable workforce of entry level employees in Federal Way.
