Walk/run seeks to ‘break the chains of human trafficking’

The Federal Way Coalition Against Trafficking, a local group that works to educate, collaborate and eradicate human trafficking in King County, is hosting its fifth annual 5-kilometer walk/run Saturday.

The event, which runs in conjunction with the Federal Way Farmers Market, begins at The Commons mall Sears parking lot. On-site registration begins at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $20 per person, or $15 per person for a team of 10, with no cost for children 5 and younger. The walk/run begins at 10 a.m.

This year will feature two speakers, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Michael Anthony Jackson, a former Seattle Seahawk, who is also a father and stepfather, will explain how his gridiron experiences has led to other success.

Marin Stewart is a sexual exploitation survivor. She will speak about the darkness of commercial exploitation, focusing on the exploiter and the ones being exploited. Today, Stewart is a survivor leader, advocate, case manager and public speaker, who is also the co-founder of Living in Victory, the only surivor-founded and survivor-led organization for at-risk and currently commercially sexually exploited youth.
