Scammers pose as Federal Way police, demand money from residents

Federal Way police will never call and demand money from people, FWPD says.

Federal Way Police Department issued a scamming alert on Tuesday afternoon.

The department said several residents have reported being called by scammers posing as FWPD members. The scam number also shows up on caller ID as “Federal Way Police Department.”

The scammers are allegedly using names of real Federal Way officers and demanding money or payments, then threatening with arrests or jail time if residents do not comply.

Federal Way police will never call and demand money from people, according to the scam alert post on the FWPD Facebook.

Police advise residents to simply hang up if they choose to answer the call, or verify questionable requests through the Federal Way Police Department main business line at 253-835-6700.
