Police searching for suspect who shot man at Federal Way bus stop

Man sustained non-life threatening injury to his leg.

Federal Way police are searching for a suspect who shot a man in his leg at a bus stop on Thursday afternoon.

Commander Kurt Schwan said they responded to a shooting call at approximately 2:35 p.m. at a bus stop in the 1100 block of 11th Ave. SW in Federal Way.

The man sustained at least one gunshot wound to his leg that is non-life threatening, Schwan said.

The King County Sheriff’s Guardian One helicopter assisted Federal Way police to help locate the suspect immediately following the report. However, police are no longer actively searching for the man.

“The victim doesn’t appear to be cooperating at this time,” Schwan said, noting that police officers will interview the victim at the hospital to try and get more information about the shooting.

The suspect is described as a light skinned black male, approximately 20 years old, 5 feet 7 inches and 160 pounds. He was last seen running north along 10th Avenue Southwest.

Silver Lake Elementary School and Lakota Middle School both went into lockdown around 3 p.m. due to police activity in the area, said Kassie Swenson, chief of communications for Federal Way Public Schools. Both lockdowns were lifted at 3:15 p.m. and 3:14 p.m., respectively.
