Pellicciotti, Reeves land leadership roles in House

Newly-elected state House of Representative members Mike Pellicciotti and Kristine Reeves, both from Federal Way, have been appointed to House committee leadership.

Rep.-elect Pellicciotti has been elected by his House colleagues to serve as the vice chair of the Public Safety Committee, which considers issues relating to law enforcement, crime prevention, criminal penalties and sentencing, adult correctional programs and institutions and other related matters.

“As a prosecutor, and now as a legislator, I am committed to addressing the public safety challenges facing our area,” Pellicciotti said. “I look forward to leading on these issues.”

Pellicciotti will also serve on the Transportation Committee, which considers the state’s transportation budget, revenue for transportation projects and issues relating to transportation agencies and the Washington State Patrol. He will also serve on the State Government Committee, which considers issues relating to public disclosure, ethics and combating government waste.

Rep.-elect Reeves was elected to serve as the vice chair of the Business & Financial Services Committee, which focuses on the licensing and regulation of businesses and professions. This committee also considers issues related to insurance; insurance companies; the safety and soundness of state banks and credit unions; the regulation of consumer credit and lending; and the regulation of securities and investments.

“As a small-business owner myself, I know how impactful regulation on business can be, and I look forward to advocating on behalf of the small businesses in our communities to ensure we are building and growing an economy that works for all families in South King County and our state,” Reeves said.

Reeves will also serve on the Capitol Budget Committee, which considers the approval of a budget for the construction and repair of public buildings and other long-term investments, including state money given or lent to local governments for infrastructure, housing and other facilities. She’ll also serve on the Community Development, Housing and Tribal Affairs Committee, which considers issues related to community development, veterans, affordability and accessibility of housing, tourism and government-to-government relationships with the Indian tribes.
