Man tells girls to get inside van | Federal Way Police Blotter

The following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:

Truck stolen in house burglaries: At 2:25 a.m. on Feb. 15 in the 1800 block of Southwest 346th Place, officers investigated two residential burglaries that occurred on the same street within a short time period. During one of the burglaries, a truck was stolen from the house, but Kent police found it and impounded it shortly after.

Apartment mailboxes easy target: At 2:53 a.m. on Feb. 15 in the 31200 block of Pete von Reichbauer Way South, a witness reported a possible mail theft at Brightwater Apartments’ community mailboxes. The witness said that he/she saw a man and woman in their 20s stealing the mail. Both left in a gold 2000 Ford Taurus. When police arrived, about 20 mailboxes were left open. The responding officer noted he/she has spoken with apartment management at least twice before regarding stolen mail. The mailboxes do not offer any security and most boxes can be pried open without any tools. Many, in fact, have, the officer said.

Injured man goes to Safeway: At 4:32 a.m. on Feb. 14 at 28810 Military Road S., a Safeway employee reported to police that a young male wanted inside the store after it had closed. The male had cuts on his hands and was bleeding but did not want an ambulance, so he left the area. Police located drops of blood on the ground but couldn’t find the male.

Unwanted sexting: At 2:13 p.m. on Feb. 14 in the 1400 block of Southwest 314th Street, police began investigating two male suspects who sent pictures of their genitalia and harassing sexual texts to several female victims.

Man tells girls to get inside van: At 3:45 p.m. on Feb. 14 in the 30000 block of 26th Place South, police were dispatched to Wildwood Elementary school where two 9-year-old girls told officers they were walking home together when they were approached by man and woman driving a grey minivan. The minivan began to follow them. The male passenger then told them to “come get inside the car” but the girls ran away. The vehicle also drove off, “squealing their tires” as it did so. School officials told police they would send out a letter and email to notify students and parents of the incident.

Gun cocked, pointed at pedestrian: At 12:39 a.m. on Feb. 13 in the 31300 block of 13th Avenue South, a man reported another man cocked a gun while pointing in his direction and then shot it into the air. The suspect was a passenger in a white Mustang that was driving southbound on 13th Avenue South, and the victim was walking from Federal Way High School toward a library. The suspect shot the gun after the victim had started running away because he feared for his life.

Man threatens harm to self and others, committed: At 8:10 a.m. on Feb. 12 in the 31500 block of 13th Avenue South, a man was involuntarily committed after admitting he wanted to kill himself. When the officer asked if he wanted to hurt himself or others, he replied that he has killed over 40 people and that when he takes his medication, he has flashbacks to to all the people he has killed. The man had a caregiver as well as a criminal history and is under the supervision of a Department of Corrections officer.

Family threatened before peace walk: At 2:19 p.m. on Feb. 12 in the 1900 block of Southwest Campus Drive, a woman called 911 to report she had received third-party information that a rival gang will attempt a drive-by shooting during a peace walk/vigil that night.

OfferUp deal goes sour: At 5 p.m. on Feb. 12 in the 1600 block of Southwest 304th Street, a victim was robbed after making arrangements with a male through “OfferUp.” The victim intended to buy a pair of shoes from the male by meeting him at Adelaide Elementary. After they met in the parking lot, however, the suspect took the shoes and ran southbound through the school yard and into the woods behind the school. The suspect is described as a Pacific Islander male, about 5-feet, 11-inches tall. He was wearing shorts and a black sweatshirt, and his username on OfferUp is “Dezzo.”

Woman assaults grocery shopper for using food stamps: At 2:25 p.m. on Feb. 11 at 28810 Military Road S., a woman was at Safeway checking out when a woman behind her became upset that she was using food stamps. The victim went to her car, and the woman approached her and pushed her, causing the victim to step back. The woman then got in her vehicle and left the area. The victim wanted to report the incident but didn’t want any further help from police.

Trespasser found with backpack full of narcotics paraphernalia: At 11:59 a.m. on Feb. 10 at 1928 S. Commons, The Commons mall security reported a male who had been previously trespassed was on the premises. Officers detained the man and discovered he was trespassing and that he had multiple warrants for his arrest. After he was placed into custody, officers searched him and found narcotics paraphernalia in his backpack. Post-Miranda reading, he admitted the items belonged to him, and he was booked into SCORE jail.

Todd Beamer student’s wallet found: At 5:32 p.m. on Feb. 11 at 33010 19th Lane S., a passer-by turned in a wallet he found on the ground near 33010 19th Lane S. The wallet contained a Todd Beamer identification card and a debit card of a male. Police booked the wallet into evidence for safekeeping after they could not locate contact information for the male.

Store owner slapped, clothes stolen: At 12:53 p.m. on Feb. 10 at 30406 Pacific Highway S., a woman walked into a business with three to four other people and stole clothing. The store owner tried to stop the woman from taking jeans, but she slapped the store owner, scratching her in the face. The suspects fled the location in their car, which was parked toward the back of the store.

Pharmacy robbed: At 5:41 p.m. on Feb. 10 at 1014 S. 320th St., an employee reported an armed robbery at the pharmacy.

Father defends son from random assault: At 8:57 p.m. on Feb. 10 in the 1900 block of South Commons, a suspect was arrested for assaulting a juvenile. The suspect was reported walking around The Commons mall and approaching random strangers, making threatening gestures toward them. According to witnesses, the suspect would make his hand into the shape of a gun and then point it at people and say “you’re dead.” He then walked up to a random person, back-handed him on the right side of his head and approached another male, a juvenile boy. He began to assault him, but the boy’s father fought off the suspect until mall security arrived and separated them. The suspect was arrested for fourth-degree assault and disorderly conduct.

Man blames medicine on attempt to drink bleach: At 4:14 a.m. on Feb. 9 in the 31500 block of 13th Avenue South, a male reported he was feeling suicidal, and a witness saw him try to drink bleach. The witness, however, took it away from him. The male told police he’s attempted suicide in the past, but he’s on new medication now that makes him “feel bad.”

Man arrested for abusing infant: At 10:52 a.m. on Feb. 9 in the 31500 block of 33rd Place Southwest, officers arrested a man after conducting a welfare check on a woman, who had sent a text message to her friend saying only the word “help.” The friend could not reach the woman and called 911. Police checked on the woman, and she told them her husband had been placing his hands over their 10-month-old son’s nose and mouth when he would cry – abuse that had been ongoing since their son’s birth.

Cell phone stolen in OfferUp deal: At 8:42 p.m. on Feb. 9 in the 28800 block of Military Road South, a man contacted police after discovering the cell phone he bought off of “OfferUp” was stolen. The man told police he bought a Samsung Galaxy 7 from a person with the screen name Caleb for $400. He met a white male inside a Safeway and give him the money for the phone, but when he went to activate it at Verizon, it turned up stolen and he could not activate it. The victim tried to contact “Caleb” several times but could not reach him.

Daycare teacher defends children from stranger: At 8:49 p.m. on Feb. 9 in the 2200 block of Southwest 349th Place, a woman reported an unknown man went to her daycare to pick up several children, but he did not have permission. She did not know the man, nor did she give him the children.
