Local scout achieves highest honor

Wayne Bergman was presented with the Boy Scouts’ highest honor, the Eagle Scout Award, in February 2017.

He is the son of Dane and Belinda Bergman of Federal Way and is a member of Troop 361 in Federal Way.

In order to achieve the rank of Eagle, Bergman had to earn 21 merit badges and show leadership in the troop and by planning, developing and completing a community service project. Merit badges earned include first aid, cooking, personal (financial) management and personal fitness, emergency preparedness, communications and citizenship in the community,nation and world. For his project,he cleared a wooded area overcome with brush to create a gravel path to a reflection area, in which he also installed a bench, near a pond for his church.

Bergman attends Federal Way High School and is on the golf team. He’s also active in his church youth group.

The rank of Eagle is earned by just 5 percent of all youth who join Boy Scouts of America.
