Girl Scout troop donates cookies to Federal Way Day Center

Troop 42458 on Wednesday gave 214 boxes of cookies to the homeless who use the facility.

Members of Girl Scout Troop 42458, which is made up of 7- and 8-year-olds from St. Vincent De Paul School, donated 214 boxes of cookies to the Federal Way Day Center Wednesday, March 28.

The day center, which opened in December 2016, provides a place for homeless men and women to shower, do laundry and connect with other community resources.

Autumn Shindo, cookie manager for Troop 42458, said when Girl Scouts sell cookies each year, people have the option of buying a box to donate. Troop 42458 chose to give its donated boxes to the day center, Shindo said.

“They thought the homeless might like to have cookies,” she said.

St. Vincent De Paul church had a special collection to raise additional funds for cookies to donate, Shindo said.

The troop sold 5,300 boxes of cookies this year, Shindo said.
