Free document shredding offered at Federal Way’s Sept. 22 recycling event

Residents can drop off appliances, confidential documents and more.

Clear out the filing cabinet and bring your confidential documents for free shredding at the city of Federal Way’s recycling event between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 at the large Wild Waves parking lot at 36892 Milton Rd. S., Federal Way.

Residents can drop off a variety of bulky or difficult-to-recycle items at no cost, including:

• Appliances

• Scrap metal

• Large branches

• Tires

• Mattresses

• Electronics

• Styrofoam

• Confidential documents.

Due to overwhelming popularity, this free event will feature two document shredding trucks to ensure capacity. Residents may bring the equivalent of up to two banker boxes or three paper sacks. No business or commercial shredding will be accepted. Only confidential documents such as bank statements and tax returns are accepted. Non-confidential documents such as junk mail or magazines should be recycled at the curb instead. Paper clips and staples do not need to be removed, but please empty out all binders and folders prior to arriving.

Visit cityoffederalway.com/recyclingevent for a complete list of items accepted at this event, restrictions, and tips with loading order to make unloading easier. The brochure also highlights everyday recycling options for those who cannot make Saturday’s event.
