Federal Way police pay tribute to fallen officer

Members of the Federal Way Honor Guard raised a flag in remembrance of Officer Brian M. Walsh on Monday, the one-year anniversary of Walsh’s death.

Walsh died of a heart attack March 21, 2010, while he and other officers responded to a scene in which a vehicle was reported stolen and the driver, while fleeing, struck police vehicles.

Walsh was hired by the police department in 2005. He was born in Germany and grew up mostly in Ohio. He was remembered at Monday’s event for his efforts in helping to convince the state Legislature to pass a law making the penalty stricter for people who point look-alike guns at police officers. Police chief Brian Wilson called Walsh’s tenure with the Federal Way department “distinguished.”

“It is important that we gather to remember him so we never forget the sacrifices Brian made to serve the community,” Mayor Skip Priest said.
