The following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:

Students caught with marijuana: At 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on May 3 at 2800 Southwest 320th Street, a female and male Decatur High School student were caught with marijuana, interviewed and released to their parents.

Another student caught with green stuff: At 8:54 a.m. on May 2 at 4248 S. 288th St., a school administrator found marijuana in a Thomas Jefferson High School student’s backpack. After police arrived, the student admitted the substance found was marijuana. The school disciplined the student and contacted a parent, and police gave a warning.

Girl drugged, assaulted: At 12:46 p.m. on May 2 in an unknown location, a 13-year-old girl told police she was sexually assaulted while at a party in Tacoma. She said she believes she was drugged, and she couldn’t provide information on a suspect. Federal Way police forwarded the case to Tacoma police as the crime occurred in their jurisdiction.

Homeless camp warned: At 5:39 p.m. on May 2 in the 800 block of South 348th Street, a property owner tipped off officers that there was an “active transient camp” in the West Hylebos wetlands area. Police checked the area and discovered an unattended camp with trash scattered everywhere. Officers left warning letters to leave the area and contacted city code compliance staff for future cleanup.

Man’s head cut in fight: At 9:45 p.m. on May 1 in the 600 block of South 328th Place, police responded to the location for a fight in progress. The woman who called police said her ex-boyfriend and current boyfriend were in a fight outside of their home. The woman said her ex-boyfriend left the scene. Officers saw a man sitting on the kitchen table with a large laceration to his head. The fire department was called, and personnel evaluated the man after he stated he did not want to go to the hospital.

Man’s shoes stolen at gunpoint: At 4:02 a.m. on April 29 in the 1900 block of Southwest Campus Drive, a victim reported he was assaulted with a firearm and robbed of his tennis shoes. He also received a broken left arm in the struggle.

Shoeless girl found at park: At 12:23 p.m. on April 28 at 4092 SW 325th St., police responded to Treasure Island Park to reports of an unaccompanied little girl at the park with a small dog. The child was barefoot and would only say her dad had “fallen from a tree.” As police drove to the park, a 911 call came in from the mother, who reported her child missing. Police told her to meet them at the park. The mother told police she went inside her house to use the restroom and thought someone else was watching her girl. When she couldn’t find her, she called police. Because this is the second time in two months that the child has been reported missing, police forwarded the case to Child Protective Services.

Welfare check needed: At 3:35 p.m. on April 28 in the 2400 block of South 273rd Place, following a welfare check, a 3-year-old child was taken into protective custody while a parent was evaluated at a hospital.

Man reports child sexual assault: At 4:40 p.m. on April 28 on Ninth Place Southwest, a male called police to report that his two 8-year-old nieces and a 15-year-old had been inappropriately touched by the caller’s brother. Police located the suspect and arrested him on the sex offense charges.

Grandpa abandons child for bar: At 5:02 p.m. on April 28 in the 2200 block of Southwest 356th Street, police responded to a call of a juvenile left in a vehicle at The Hitching Post bar’s parking lot. The bartender reported that the juvenile’s grandfather was inside of the bar but that he didn’t know the child was in his vehicle. The grandfather called the mother of the child and the bartender gave the child to the mother. By the time police arrived, everyone involved had left the bar and the case was closed.

Couple loads up at Town Square Park: At 10:07 a.m. on April 27 at 31600 Pete von Reichbauer Way, city park workers called police to report a man and woman going into the women’s bathroom at Town Square Park. Officers discovered the woman, who was partially unclothed, was in possession of a “staged and loaded” heroin needle and had active arrest warrants. The man said he just met the woman a couple of months prior and was happy to leave with a trespass notice.

Another man, another shed: At 9:40 a.m. on April 27 in the 31600 block of 12th Place Southwest, officers responded to a report of a man sleeping in a shed located on the side yard of a private residence. Police contacted the man and “used necessary force” to detain him. Officers provided first aid to the man, and he was transported to SCORE jail on a warrant and a criminal trespass citation.

Keep your hands to yourself: At 10:16 p.m. on April 27 at Thomas Jefferson High School, police responded to a 15-year-old girl’s report that a 15-year-old boy assaulted her by grabbing her buttocks several times during class.

And again: At 11:30 a.m. on April 27 in the 30600 block of 16th Avenue South, a female student at Federal Way High School was caught with 1.41 grams of marijuana. The student admitted to smoking before school and to possessing the drug. She was disciplined, and the school contacted her parents. Because she was cooperating with the investigation, the school resource officer decided not to recommend criminal charges.
