Family displaced after Federal Way apartment wall fire

An apartment fire displaced one family of five Monday afternoon.

South King Fire and Rescue responded to the The Ridge and Shores Apartment Homes in the 31900 block of Second Lane Southwest at 12:31 p.m., four minutes after receiving the call.

Capt. Jeff Bellinghausen said the displaced family was moved to another apartment unit in the complex.

South King Fire and Rescue’s preliminary investigation revealed the fire, which was primarily smoke, was caused by a sub-contractor “sweating” copper pipes with a blow torch, a common method of repair work.

The apartment building sustained approximately $10,000 in damages. No one was injured.
