A dispute between two estranged lovers led to gunfire and a K-9 search Saturday night in Federal Way.

Around 8 p.m. March 3, Federal Way police responded to a report of gunshots in the 1300 block of SW 323rd Street. A woman and man agreed to meet in that location to talk, and according to police, the woman brought a baseball bat along for the conversation. The man retreated to his residence and returned with a firearm.

After hearing a gunshot, the woman damaged a Volkswagen car with the baseball bat, then fled the scene in her own car, with the male suspect firing four or five shots at her, according to police.

Once on the scene, police found bullet casings in the roadway, along with a baseball bat and the Volkswagen with a smashed windshield. The registered owner of the vehicle was inside her home when the incident took place and did not hear gunshots or her vehicle being damaged, according to a police spokeswoman. Police said she refused to provide any other information.

On March 4, a woman from the 32000 block of 19th Place South reported that she had bullet holes in her car. She then told police about her involvement in the events that transpired the night before.

An investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made and no charges have been filed, according to a police spokeswoman. A canvass of the neighborhood near the incident revealed no information on a suspect or witnesses. No houses with bullet holes were found.
