Dr. Mark Marshall is no longer principal at Thomas Jefferson High School.

Rumors have been swirling about his departure recently. The official word from the Federal Way School District is that he has started his new position at Eastside Union School District in Lancaster, Calif., about 70 miles north of Los Angeles.

"We wish him well," district spokeswoman Diane Turner said. "We continue to be happy for him. He did an awesome job at TJ."

Turner said he announced his decision in April, and the district had been working on finalizing his departure schedule when he left on Friday.

The district is working on identifying a interim principal as well as next year's principal.

Marshall had been the principal at the school since 2005.
