A diver drowned just off Redondo Beach on Sunday.

South King Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene just after 4:30 p.m. June 28 in response to a 911 call for a diver in distress.

The man was described as in his 60s, and had been diving with around half a dozen people, a report said.

Although the call was originally made while the man was still in the water, by the time firefighters and paramedics arrived, he had been pulled to the beach.

Firefighters began performing CPR; however, by 5:15 p.m. he was pronounced dead.

It is unknown if the dive equipment, his ability or a medical condition contributed to the man's death. The group was diving at 90 feet when they noticed something was wrong.
