Federal Way school board to interview candidates tonight, delays decision
The Federal Way Public Schools board of directors will table their decision on the new District 5 board member until later this month, following some confusion within the district.
An official notice posted to the district’s website on May 30 states the school board will be meeting at 5 p.m. tonight in a special meeting. The notice was by order of board of education president Carol Gregory and authorized by Interim Superintendent Sally McLean.
At the meeting, the board of directors will interview the five candidates that were chosen of the 12 eligible applicants last week.
The candidates are: Jeremy Cucco, Hiroshi Eto, Shelley Ko, Tanaya Lanning and Richard Champion.
After the interviews take place at the public meeting, the board will recess to an executive session for approximately 20 minutes to discuss each candidate.
“A decision will be made following executive session on the selected candidate,” the official notice states.
However, Gregory said the board will interview candidates tonight but will not make its final decision.
"We will not do it tonight. We will hold that off since people were unaware and since we realized there was some confusion."
She said the board could make its decision during the June 10 meeting, or on June 24 at the latest, as previously reported.
The meeting will be held at the Educational Service Center at 3330 Eighth Ave. S. in Federal Way.
