Fatal one-car accident involved stolen car

Officers from the Federal Way Police Department (FWPD) responded to a "vehicle v. fence collision" today in the 30000 block of Pacific Highway. According to information provided by FWPD, the male driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was dead at the scene. Authorities were able to determine that the vehicle the man was driving had been stolen out of Des Moines on April 13.

The driver's identity remains unknown, although FWPD indicated it was believed the King County Medical Examiner's office would have him identified sometime today.

So far, investigators have pieced together that the "vehicle was northbound on Pacific Highway in the middle lane and drifted off the east side of the roadway." The vehicle then "struck a speed limit sign and a tree" before careening off into a chain link fence and came to rest after striking a high voltage power pole. The driver was impaled by the top rail of the fence, and it's believed he may have been experiencing a medical issue of some sort before losing control of the vehicle.
