A mock DUI crash scene was staged Thursday morning at Todd Beamer High School to send a powerful reminder before this weekend’s prom.

Rescue personnel assisted six students at a scene involving two cars and two fatalities. A drunk driver with three passengers smashed into the back of a Ford Focus, injuring a father but killing his 12-year-old daughter, covered by a yellow tarp. The lifeless body of a young woman from the first car was placed on the asphalt as her co-passenger cried in disbelief.

The victims portrayed a gruesome scene that was staged for maximum emotional impact. Blood coated the actors, dashboards and the smashed windshields. South King Fire crews ripped open the crumpled steel doors before medics carted victims into an ambulance. Meanwhile, a Washington State Trooper conducted a field sobriety test on the drunk driver who was headed straight to jail.

A crowd of senior students surrounded the scene and watched in silence.

Minutes before the presentation, Decatur High School alum Mike Bowles shared a tragic story with Todd Beamer seniors. In 2010, two of his best friends - Nick Hodgins and Derek King - were killed by a drunk driver on I-5 just days before graduation.
