Contract for trash haulers is still tentative

Garbage haulers who work in Federal Way and other King County areas rejected one tentative contract with their employer but agreed to another one last weekend.

Members of Teamsters Local 174 rejected a proposed settlement with Waste Management on Saturday. Negotiators for the two sides reached another tentative deal the next day, however. That one is expected to be voted on by the garbage truck drivers by this weekend.

The first proposed settlement was reached April 16.

The drivers have threatened to go on strike if a contract isn’t reached.

Waste Management officials have said limited service would continue if the drivers walk off their jobs.
