A $220 million water supply involving Federal Way began flowing this week.

Full operation of the Second Supply Project pipeline was scheduled to begin Thursday, according to Tacoma Water, the utility that led the pipeline’s construction.

Lakehaven Utility District, which supplies Federal Way and other areas, is one of three partners with Tacoma Water that helped share the cost of the project. The city of Kent and Covington Water District are the others.

The 65 million gallons of water per day that the new system will pump to the four utility services “is a great achievement,” said John Kirner, Tacoma Water superintendent.
