Federal Way's Festival Days one week away

By this time next week, Federal Way’s Festival Days will be in full swing.

The 16th annual, three-day community festival opens next Friday with live music, a carnival and other activities. More of the same is planned for the next two days, plus a five-kilometer fun run and the Grand Parade on Saturday.

After being centered at Steel Lake Park in recent years, the festival this year is moving downtown. Entertainment, booths, a juried arts and crafts show, vendors and the carnival will be staged in the parking lots at four shopping centers along South 320th Street –– SeaTac Mall, SeaTac Village, SeaTac Plaza and Gateway Center.

Festival Days is produced by the Federal Way Community Council, a non-profit group. The city and local businesses and medical, education and religious organizations are key sponsors and supporters. A leading business sponsor is Pacific Coast Ford, which donated $10,000 for running and promoting the event.

Also important to the festival’s success are volunteers who help coordinate the myriad events, said Bob Hitchcock, president of the organizing committee.

“We count on them to help everyone have a great time,” he said.

A meeting for volunteers to sign up was held Wednesday. Prospective helpers can get more information from volunteers chairwoman Liz Conner at 874-5283.
