Teenage bandits nabbed

Two teenage boys were arrested in Federal Way Monday after they robbed the La Quinta Inn armed with handguns.

“They got some cash, but they didn’t get away,” said Federal Way Police commander Stan McCall.

Both boys are 16, he said. One is from Federal Way, but McCall didn’t know where the other lived.

McCall said police received a call about 12:30 p.m. after the robbery of the hotel on South 320th Street near Interstate 5. “There was a little bit of a foot chase,” he said, but the suspects were caught before they managed to get to a vehicle.

Police got admissions from both boys and booked them Monday at the King County Youth Center in Seattle.

Information wasn’t available on whether the Federal Way robbery suspects might be tied to other motel robberies being investigated by the King County Sheriff Department and the Des Moines Police, including one May 31 in which the owner of the New Best Inn in Kent was shot to death. Suspects in that incident were armed and were described as male and 16 to 25 years old.
