State disability committee seeks panel members

The Governor’s Committee on Disability Issues and Employment is accepting applications for governor-appointed volunteers to serve on the committee for a three-year term beginning in January 2003.

Prospective appointees must be a person with a disability, a family member of a person with a disability, an advocate for people with disabilities or be an employee or volunteer of another disability organization.

UW Diversity Award nominations needed

Nominations are being accepted for the UW MAP Distinguished Alumni Award, given by the University of Washington Alumni Association’s Multicultural Alumni Partnership.

The award, which honors the diversity achievements of UW alumni, will be presented at the MAP Bridging the Gap Breakfast this fall.

Chamber Golf Classic scheduled for May 22

Pacific Coast Ford will present the Federal Way Chamber Golf Classic 2002 on May 22 at Northshore Golf & Country Club.

The event will includes putting and hole-in-one contests, a barbecue, and a silent auction.

Green fees are $90 per golfer and $360 per foursome. Individual sign-ups will be assigned to foursomes. Additional information is available from the chamber at 838-2605.

Kiwanis plan car seat safety inspection event

Car seat inspectors will correct car seat installation errors on new or older used car seats during Car Seat Safety Inspection Day, presented by the Kiwanis Club of Federal Way, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 11 in front of Sears at SeaTac Mall.

Cotton candy, popcorn and free information bags will be provided. Local police and fire departments will be represented, and kids can be photographed with a fireman in front of a fire engine.

Last year, 390 car seat installation errors were corrected. Sponsors of the event include Starbucks, Crystal Springs, Washington State Bank, Weyerhaeuser, CapitalOne and Cafe Pacific Catering. Additional information is available from Jeff Trantalis at 838-2313.

Future teachers meet next month at GRCC

The Future Teachers Conference is scheduled for May 18 at Green River Community College by Teachers of Tomorrow Club.
