City seeks eight for advisory panel

Federal Way is about eight applicants short of a municipal facility advisory committee.

So far, two people have turned in applications and city officials are aware of a third person who picked up an application package but hasn’t yet returned it.

“With a week-and-a-half to go, we’re hoping the pace picks up a bit,” said assistant city manager Derek Matheson.

The City is hoping to create an 11-member committee, with seven members from the general public and four experts in development, planning, real estate and finance.

Municipal Facility Advisory Committee members will analyze potential sites, explore funding sources and provide information and recommendations to the Federal Way City Council on a City Hall project.

The committee will be able to recommend whether the city should pursue a full City Hall or just a police and court facility.

The Federal Way City Council will make the final decisions on the scope of the project, location and funding sources following the committee’s recommendations.

The committee will meet once or twice a month between April and October.

Applications are available in the City Clerk’s office, City Hall, 33530 First Way S. in Federal Way. Completed applications must be returned to the City Clerk’s office by April 8.

For more information, contact the City Clerk’s office at 661-4070.
