Four eye school board seat

At least four people were interested enough in being a Federal Way School Board member to attend a how-to-do-it meeting Monday with current board members.

The informational session at school district headquarters was intended to explain the duties, tasks and time involved in board service.

On hand for the tips were Leonard Williams, Mary Kenfield, Darcy Lees and Sherry Kerr. Two other prospective board additions also attended but learned they’re ineligible because they don’t live in the district’s southwest area, from which a new board member will be appointed.

No one had formally applied for the appointment as of Monday. Seven people have requested application forms, however.

April 11 is the deadline for applying to replace Ann Murphy, who resigned from the board in February.

The remaining four board members will pick someone to complete Murphy’s four-year term. The appointee will have to run for election next year in order to retain the office.
