The body of a woman found behind the QFC grocery store Monday has been identified as Linetra Thornton.

The 43-year-old Federal Way woman was strangled to death, Federal Way police said.

Police officers were dispatched at 11:53 a.m. Monday to a call about a female lying on the ground behind the business in the 31200 block of Pacific Highway South.

When officers arrived, they discovered Thornton’s body partially concealed by shrubbery behind the Pavillions Centre grocery.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Section processed the scene for evidence Monday afternoon.

The King County Medical Examiner also responded to the scene and took custody of the body. An autopsy was conducted Tuesday afternoon.

“As far as we know, there were no obvious signs to how she died,” public information officer Kurt Schwan said Monday. “We’re treating it as a homicide.”

Anyone with information about the incident should contact the Federal Way Police Department at (253) 661-4740 or call the department’s tip line at (253) 661-4588.
