Q&A: FW fire commission candidates share views/Question 8

Kerry Davis:

Fire Commissioners need to maintain a good working relationship with the

Union. It must be remembered that the Union was created to protect and aid

the firefighters. The commissioners are there to protect the fire district

as a whole, including the firefighters. With the right commissioners, there

are few times where those come into conflict. When conflict does occur, the

two must work together to ensure that the final decision is what is best for

the the fire district.

John Rickert:

The Chief officers and commissioners have to work together to set the direction for the department.  They need to collaborate and try to meet each others’ goals with the public’s interest in mind.  The commissioners need to be open to the union’s and the Chief officers’ concerns. We need to continue building a team.  The commissioners, Chief officers and union are on the same team and must work together to solve their problems and continue to provide excellent public service.
