Q&A: FW fire commission candidates share views/Question 5
June 13, 2008 · Updated 10:09 AM
Kerry Davis:
The good economy of the mid to late 90s allowed fire department and the
community to grow and expand with limited worries about the budget. With
the economy retracting and the cities annexing more of unincorporated King
County, the Fire District budget is going to tighten over the next few
years. We will need to re-evaluate the strategic budget plan based upon the
current trends of the economy. Finding ways to cut costs without lowering
the level of service or endangering firefighters or the community is my main
priority.
John Rickert:
The districts finances are in good order, thanks to the citizens of Federal Way who supported Proposition 1 in September. There is one other issue coming up on this Novembers ballot, which could have a $590,000 impact on the 2002 budget. That is the King County EMS Levy. If it fails, the districts share would not be made available. I urge Federal Way voters to vote yes on the King County Medic One proposition.
