Q&A: FW fire commission candidates share views/Question 4

Kerry Davis:

I believe the current Medic One program would be good to keep, if funding were not dependant on levies. A sustainable method of funding should be found to keep Medic One operating. To fund a medic program for just Federal Way or South King County would be expensive and could reduce the quality and level of service. If an alternative method of funding is not found for Medic One, we must look at alternatives with the surrounding communities to prepare for the loss of paramedic service if a levy should fail. We need to

look for the smartest ways to bring the best service, while always preparing for the worst problems.

John Rickert:

I favor keeping the current county Medic One service as long as it is properly funded.  If King County no longer wants to operate the system, but allocates the funding to the Federal Way Fire Department, then I would support a local fire department system.  Without county funding the department would have to cut other necessary services or find additional funding to provide its own quality Medic One service.
