Missing man found dead Friday morning

"Dale P. Bateman, missing since Sept. 10, was found dead Friday morning. His body was recovered from a shallow ravine in Pierce County, according to Federal Way police. A Renton man was arrested in connection with Bateman's disappearance. Federal Way police spokesman Brett Hatfield said it appears that the victim knew his attacker.Bateman had not been seen or heard from since getting into a car at the Panda of China restaurant parking lot about 1 a.m. on Sept. 10. An acquaintance saw him get into a gold 1988 Chevy Impala.Auburn officers found the car about midnight on Sept. 13, said Federal Way police spokesman Mark Harreus. Federal Way police are in charge of the investigation because the Panda of China restaurant, located at 30315 Pacific Highway S. in Federal Way, was the last known place Bateman was seen alive. After Bateman disappeared, family members contacted officials because of their concerns. Bateman's family members say he was assaulted by the driver of the Impala and the driver's friends on the night of Sept. 8, according to the South County Journal. Bateman sustained broken ribs, a black eye and a mild concussion. He was treated at St. Francis Hospital, according to family members. The Department of Safety criminal investigations section is investigating all the angles of this case, including any possibility of a connection between the assault and the disappearance, Harreus said. Police are especially interested in talking to anyone who saw the vehicle between the time it left the restaurant parking lot and the time it was abandoned in Auburn. "
