Mirror staff reports:

A scuba diver died Saturday evening at the Redondo pier in Des Moines.

The deceased diver has been identified as Leanne K. Miller, 53. The King County Medical Examiner reports the cause of death as accidental drowning.

South King Fire and Rescue responded to a 911 call at about 6:42 p.m. March 9 that a diver was down. Rescue swimmers and the diver's partner searched the waters. The diver's partner located her and brought her to the surface, and an SKFR rescue swimmer brought the diver to shore.

Despite resuscitation efforts by EMTs and King County paramedics, the diver was pronounced dead at the scene. The King County Sheriff's Office is investigating.

Initial reports were that the diver had run out of air in her scuba tank. According to SKFR, the diver's partner tried to help while both were under water and then surfaced, calling out to bystanders for help.
