Police cars collide trying to catch car thief

The Mirror

Two Federal Way Police cars pursuing a stolen vehicle Thursday collided with each other, but the thief didn’t get away.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:20 p.m. in the city’s downtown area. Neither officer in the incident was seriously hurt, officials reported.

According to officials, police officers were following a reported stolen vehicle northbound on Pacific Highway South. Two other officers were en route to assist when their patrol cars collided at the intersection of South 312th Street and Pacific. The police car traveling north on Pacific struck the one heading east on 312th.

The cars were heavily damaged, but the officers suffered minor head or knee injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment, according to police commander Greg Wilson.

Meanwhile, other officers stopped the stolen vehicle and arrested the suspected thief, he said.

Federal Way Police were investigating the collision.
