With all the hustle and bustle of the first day of school on Tuesday, at least the teachers at some Federal Way schools didn’t have to worry about breakfast.

Volunteers from Family Life Christian Center in Federal Way donated 1,200 doughnuts to 16 local schools in celebration of going back to school.

They bought the doughnuts from Krispy Kreme with a generous discount.

“We’re very much appreciative of the teachers and the staff and the faculty,” said Pastor Dan Larson. “They’re some of the most unappreciated people in our community and they serve every day... They take care of our little ones.”

Shawn Zieglmeier, a church member who got up at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday to help deliver doughnuts, said she was thanking God that morning that she wasn’t a teacher. She could hardly imagine getting up so early every day and having rambunctious children swarming around her so early in the morning.

“They’re so underpaid and it can be a thankless job,” Zieglmeier said. “Anything you can do to bless them and let them know they are appreciated.”
