Mirror Lake Elementary's 50th anniversary

Mirror Lake Elementary School will celebrate its 50th year in Federal Way next week.

Beginning Sept. 17, students will offer public tours of the hallways where historical pictures will line the walls. Books with class pictures dating back to 1957 will be available for viewing. More pictures, with help from the Federal Way Historical Society, will be on display.

Each student also completed a history-themed project that will be displayed.

The history week will conclude with a 50th anniversary celebration 1957 Sock Hop from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 21 at 625 S. 314th St. All current or former staff, families, students and friends are invited. The event is free and kid-friendly.

The sock-hop celebration will feature antique cars, food and beverages donated by the Kiwanis Club, oldies music and dancing, swing and twist dance lessons, dance contest, hula hoop contest, period costume contest, food and opportunities to reunited with old classmates, teachers, staff and friends.
