Scott Riley, a former music teacher at Twin Lakes Elementary School, pleaded guilty last week to assaulting a student in the school music room.

Riley, 52, pled guilty to fourth-degree assault. He avoided jail time and having to register as a sex offender in exchange for his plea.

The judge ruled that Riley will not be allowed in the presence of a minor unless he is supervised by an adult who is aware of his conviction. His children are exceptions. He will also serve two years of probation, 30 days of community service and undergo a sexual deviancy evaluation.

Riley resigned from his position with the Federal Way School District effective Dec. 31.
